Long known for battling racism, 3rd Ward Alderman Dorothy Tillman draws criticism in the wake of a discrimination lawsuit. Two white waiters, Ahmet Gundogdu and Michael Otte, allege the Palmer House Hilton removed them from working Tillman’s banquet last October after her staff asked for black waiters. According to the suit, the 11-year veteran waiters were told to work at another event or leave for the day. They seek $100,000 in damages. Tillman, who is not a defendant, tells the Sun-Times: “It is not personal against anybody. I am just pro-my people.”
How the mighty have fallen. Once a powerful Alderman in Chicago and endorsed by Barack Obama (she lost anyway) the gun carrying, flamboyant hat- wearing, racist Dorothy Tillman landed in jail recently.
Former Chicago alderman and civil rights activist Dorothy Tillman was arrested Sunday in her native Montgomery, Ala., charged with criminal trespassing after a confrontation with hospital officials about her 86-year-old ailing aunt.
Tillman, best known for her work with Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and her colorful array of hats, spent 102 minutes in the Montgomery city jail before a local pastor posted $300 bail, jail officials said.
